Project Overview Can you imagine a tougher job than donning a bathing suit, grabbing my camera bag and heading off with my family to the Oak Bluffs town beach? I've spent several summers devoting as much of my time as possible to this line of work, taking pictures of cute, active kids in one of their favorite places. I travel with lots of sunscreen and Nikon F-3's loaded with Velvia film. Sand and sea spray are nasty little inconveniences, but the gear somehow manages to hold up. I spend most of my time getting in close with a wide angle, lying down in the sand or crouching with my camera just inches above the water. I look for bright, graphic scenes with all the stuff kids bring to the beach in summer — ruffled pink bathing suits, bright yellow water wings, colorful buckets and shovels. The photos will be published with lively text as a children's book by Henry Holt and Co.
